John Darling Public School was built in 1988 and was designed to accommodate 400 students from JK-Grade 6.
The school was named in honour of Mr. John Darling. He was a dedicated, active leader in the field of education. John Darling was a Trustee on the Waterloo County Board of Education for 30 years. John Darling retired in 1985 and passed away in 2006. His memory lives on to benefit all those connected with our school community.
Today, John Darling P.S. has a population of approximately 185 students from Junior Kindergarten through to Grade 6. We provide English instruction with a Core French program for students in Grades 1 to 6. We have one Alternative Continuum of Education class.
Environmental awareness has long been a characteristic of our school community. John Darling school participates in recycling, boomerang lunches and greening projects. We are a walking school. Through the generous efforts of our parents, we are able to offer community events throughout the year.
At John Darling, our goal is to make your child’s day safe, happy and productive. DRAKE the Dragon is our mascot. We expect each student to follow our DRAKE motto.

Our Code of Behaviour relates to behaviour at school, on the school bus, and during any school sponsored off-campus trip. At times, students will make inappropriate choices that will require consequences. John Darling and the WRDSB utilize a progressive discipline policy.
Progressive discipline builds upon strategies that build healthy relationships and promote positive behaviours. When a student displays inappropriate behaviour, staff may use a range of interventions, supports and consequences. These may include contacting parents, verbal reminders, visual cues and a review of expectations. When it occurs on an off-campus trip, it may include the student being sent home and missing the remainder of the experience.
