Dear Families,
We hope that everyone has adjusted to the cooler temperatures and snow we experienced earlier in the week! Today we held a brief assembly to honour our day shift custodian, Mr. Lantz. He has been working for the WRDSB for 50 years this month. His hard work keeps our school looking its best.
PD Day-Fri. Oct. 26 is a Professional Development Day. Teachers will be looking at EQAO results from the spring and past Report Card marks to assist us in setting our learning goals for our School Improvement Plan. Our plan will align with the Board’s Operational Goals of Increased Graduation Rates, Increased Achievement in Math and Student/Staff Well-Being.
Doh-Raiser Program-Just a reminder that Cobb’s Bakery on Ira Needles will donate 10% of your purchase when you tell them that you are a John Darling parent. This money will come back to the school to support initiatives which support our students.
Food Drive-John Darling’s annual fall Food Drive kicked off this week! Food collection boxes have been placed in each classroom. The collection period runs from October 18th until October 30th. Some of the most needed items identified by the Food Bank this year include: canned fruit, meat and fish, pasta sauce, rice and hot cereals. Any other nutritious non-perishable food is appreciated. Taking part in the food drive is a way for students to demonstrate social responsibility by helping out members of our local community and raise their awareness as global citizens.
Bus Evacuation-On Nov. 5, all students will be participating in this drill that is run by the bus company. This is to ensure that students know how to quickly exit the bus in case of an emergency when on a field trip.
