At John Darling, we plan to extend the fun and show our Canadian spirit!

Here’s what we have planned…

1.  A08 and A01 will be creating a bulletin board display in the front entry way where they will track the medal count and highlight Canadian accomplishments.

2.  Olympic Fact Find

Students are invited to collect and record interesting facts about the Sochi Olympics.  (Parents can help!) Each day one submission will be read during morning announcements.

3.  Olympic Event Match-up Contest

Students need to identify the event represented by each of 3 olympic symbols on display in their classroom and on the entry form.  (Mom and Dad can help.) Every student may enter the draw for a prize.  We have balls, mini sticks, lacrosse sticks, skipping ropes and more!  The draws will continue throughout the olympics until we run out.

4.  Olympic Country Flag Find

Look high and low around our school.  Can your class find where we have hidden the flags for each of the countries participating in the olympics?  Who will find all of them first?

5. Friday, Feb. 7th

-Go Canada Day!  Wear or bring something to celebrate Canada.  Red or White, T-shirt or jersey, flag, olympic mittens, etc.

-Opening Ceremonies Torch Relay: Classes will participate in passing the torch within the halls of JD.  The Torch will spend a day in each class where they will photograph a special moment with the torch that day!

6. Wednesday, Feb. 11 and 19:  JD Olympic Intramurals

Join in the fun during the Nutrition Break.  We will be offering some intramural activities outside.

7.  Wednesday, Feb. 12

Culture Day:  The olympics brings to gave people from all over the world who share their culture and experiences with one another.  Those students who are interested are invited to share something from his or her family’s culture with our school.  It could be a poster display of photos, music, a game/toy, clothing, etc.  Try to keep it simple.  (Mom or Dad could help.)  We will share your contribution during the 2nd Nutrition Break.  Please complete the Participation Form so that we know how many people are sharing.  (We may be in the library or the gym, depending upon numbers.)  Families are welcome to visit our Culture day event.  Please sign in at the office upon arrival.

8. Monday, Feb. 24

Closing Ceremonies @ JD

Classes who have been graphing data about the olympics are invited to post their work in the halls.  The torch will be passed one last time to each class.
