Our classes are scheduled to go ice skating at Activa Arena as part of the school’s Health and Physical Education program. Classes also use the outdoor rink as part of the P.E. program at school. And lastly, our students in grades 3-6 are able to skate during the Nutrition Breaks.
In order to make your child’s ice skating experience safe and more enjoyable, it is important that your child:
-wear properly-fitted ice skates
-wear gloves or mitts at all times when on the ice
-dress appropriately for the arena/weather conditions
Important: In previous years, it was recommended that students wear appropriate helmets when participating in skating activities.
Please note that effective immediately, the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that all staff and students (JK-12) wear CSA approved head protection designed for skating during all skating activities.
CSA approved helmets bearing the CSA certification or identification are required. Bicycle helmets are not permitted for skating activities as they are not designed and tested for this purpose.
The Waterloo Region District School Board continues to place safety as a high priority for all of our staff and students We believe that adopting this mandatory helmet policy will help protect students and staff during skating activities
